1. What are sugar alcohols?

Sugar alcohols are a misnomer! Sugar alcohols (substitute sweeteners/ bulking agents) contain neither sugar nor alcohol. Sugar alcohols are part of the POLYOL category, and include sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol, isomalt, Polyglycitol , which is another name for HSH/ Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate and others. (Golightly uses Polyglycitol, which is produced by partial hydrolysis of corn.) Polyols are found in many sugar free foods and are slowly and not completely absorbed into the blood. Sugar alcohols contain fewer carbs and provide lower calories than regular sugar. HSH is derived from corn and can be safely used and enjoyed by diabetics and by those who need gluten-free foods. It can also be used by those on a low carb or low GI (Glycemic Index) diet.

Golightly is good for 2 years. The 4 digit code on the back of the bag, called the Julian Date Code, is as follows: For example: 6030 means that the candy was manufactured in the year of 2006 (6) on the 30th day of the year (030). First number represents the year, the next three numbers represent the day of the year the candy was manufactured. The candy is good from 2 years from this date.
